BeenVerified Opt-Out Guide

What You Need to Know

  • Time required: 10-15 minutes
  • Cost: Free (no account needed)
  • Processing time: 24-72 hours
  • Bonus: One opt-out removes you from PeopleLooker, NeighborWho, and Ownerly too
  • Re-check in: 90 days (your data will likely reappear)

What BeenVerified Collects About You

BeenVerified is one of the largest people search sites in the United States. They compile detailed profiles from public records and sell access to anyone willing to pay. Here's what they might have on you:

  • Personal details: Full name, age, date of birth, phone numbers, email addresses
  • Address history: Current and past addresses, sometimes going back decades
  • Relatives and associates: Names of family members, roommates, neighbors
  • Criminal records: Arrests, convictions, traffic violations, court judgments
  • Property records: Home ownership, property values, mortgages, tax assessments
  • Public records: Marriage/divorce records, business registrations, professional licenses
  • Social media: Links to public profiles they've scraped

They pull this data from government databases, court records, county courthouses, state and federal repositories, and other publicly accessible sources. Their automated tools continuously scrape the web to keep profiles current. [1]

Why This Matters

BeenVerified makes private data available to anyone - including stalkers, scammers, and employers who shouldn't be using people search sites for hiring decisions. Exposed information enables:

  • Identity theft: Enough data to open fraudulent accounts or craft convincing phishing attacks
  • Doxxing and harassment: Stalkers, abusive ex-partners, and online harassers use these sites to find home addresses
  • Discrimination: Landlords and employers using unregulated background checks outside FCRA protections
  • Targeted scams: Criminals use family member names and address history to make scam calls more convincing

Who Owns BeenVerified

BeenVerified is owned by a company that also operates several other people search sites. When you opt out of BeenVerified, you're also removed from their affiliated sites:

  • PeopleLooker
  • NeighborWho
  • Ownerly

This means one opt-out request covers multiple databases. However, you'll still need to separately opt out of sites owned by other companies (Spokeo, Whitepages, Intelius, etc.).

Step-by-Step Opt-Out Process

Step 1: Go to the Opt-Out Page

Navigate directly to BeenVerified's opt-out search page:

https://www.beenverified.com/app/optout/search

Alternatively, go to BeenVerified.com, scroll to the footer, and click "Do Not Sell My Personal Information" under the Help section.

Step 2: Search for Your Record

  1. Enter your first name and last name
  2. Select your state
  3. Click "Search"

The results page will show all profiles matching your name. Look for the one that matches your information (age, city, relatives listed).

Step 3: Select Your Profile

Find your listing in the search results and click the "Proceed to Opt Out" button next to it.

If you have multiple profiles (common if you've lived in different states or have a common name), you'll need to submit separate opt-out requests for each one. The web form only allows one at a time.

Step 4: Enter Your Email

  1. Enter an email address (where they'll send verification)
  2. Complete the CAPTCHA verification
  3. Click "Send Verification Email"

Use a Throwaway Email

Data brokers are known to add opt-out requesters to new marketing databases. Use a disposable email address - not your primary email - for this and all data broker opt-outs. Services like ProtonMail or SimpleLogin let you create aliases.

Step 5: Verify Your Email

  1. Check your inbox for an email from BeenVerified (check spam/junk folders)
  2. Click the "Verify Opt-Out" button in the email
  3. You'll be redirected to a confirmation page

The verification link expires, so don't wait too long to click it.

Step 6: Wait for Removal

Your listing should be removed within 24-72 hours. BeenVerified will send a confirmation email when the removal is complete.

If You Have Multiple Profiles

The online form only handles one profile at a time. If you found several records under your name, you have two options:

Option 1: Submit Multiple Requests

Go through the opt-out process separately for each profile. Time-consuming but works.

Option 2: Email for Bulk Removal

Contact BeenVerified directly at [email protected] and request removal of all profiles. Include:

  • Your full name
  • Date of birth
  • Current and previous addresses
  • URLs of all profiles you found (copy from search results)
  • A clear statement: "I request deletion of all my personal information from BeenVerified and all affiliated sites"

Alternative Methods

By Phone

Call 1-844-823-2869 during business hours. Navigate the automated menu to "Privacy Rights" or "Privacy Requests." Tell the representative you want to opt out and provide your information.

By Email

Send your request to [email protected] or [email protected] with:

  • Subject line: "Data Removal Request"
  • Your full name
  • Date of birth
  • Current address and any previous addresses
  • The URL(s) of your profile(s) on BeenVerified
  • Request: "Please remove all my personal information from BeenVerified and all affiliated databases"

California Residents: CCPA Request

If you're a California resident, you have additional legal rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act. You can submit a formal CCPA deletion request that carries legal weight.

Include this language in your email:

"Pursuant to the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), I am exercising my right to deletion under Cal. Civ. Code § 1798.105. Please delete all personal information you have collected about me and direct any service providers to delete my personal information from their records."

BeenVerified must respond within 45 days and confirm deletion.

Your Data Will Come Back

This is not a permanent solution. BeenVerified continuously scrapes public records. Even after you opt out, they can rebuild your profile from the same sources.

Set a calendar reminder to re-check BeenVerified every 90 days. Most re-listings appear within 3-4 months.

If your data reappears, you'll need to go through the opt-out process again. This is an ongoing battle, not a one-time fix.

What BeenVerified Can't Do

Opting out of BeenVerified only removes you from their database (and affiliated sites). It does NOT:

  • Remove you from other people search sites (Spokeo, Whitepages, Radaris, etc.)
  • Delete the underlying public records that BeenVerified scraped
  • Stop other data brokers from collecting the same information
  • Prevent BeenVerified from re-collecting your data in the future

For comprehensive protection, you need to opt out of multiple sites. See our People Search Opt-Out Index for the complete list.

Troubleshooting

Can't Find Your Profile

Try searching with:

  • Different name variations (nicknames, maiden name)
  • Previous states you've lived in
  • Just first name and state (broader search)

Verification Email Never Arrived

  • Check spam/junk folders
  • Wait 15 minutes and check again
  • Try submitting the request again with a different email
  • Contact [email protected] directly

Profile Still Visible After 72 Hours

  • Clear your browser cache and check again
  • Try searching from a different device or incognito window
  • If still visible, email [email protected] with your original confirmation
