What Is PeopleFinders?
PeopleFinders has been operating since 1999 - one of the oldest people search sites on the internet. They've had over two decades to accumulate data on virtually every American adult. Your profile might include:
- Full name and aliases: Including maiden names, nicknames, and name variations
- Contact information: Phone numbers (current and historical), email addresses
- Address history: Every place you've lived, sometimes going back 20+ years
- Family connections: Names of relatives, associates, and household members
- Age and date of birth: Often displayed prominently
- Property records: Home ownership, property values
- Court records: Criminal history, civil filings (premium feature)
Suppression, Not Deletion
Important: PeopleFinders' opt-out process suppresses your data from being displayed - it doesn't delete it from their database. They retain your information but stop showing it in search results. If they receive new data matching your profile from public records, it may reappear.
Step-by-Step Opt-Out Process
Step 1: Find Your Profile
- Go to PeopleFinders.com
- Enter your first name, last name, and city/state
- Click "Search Now"
- Browse results and find your profile
- Click "View Details" on the right side of your record
Verify it's your profile by checking the address, age, and relatives listed.
Step 2: Go to the Opt-Out Page
Navigate directly to the PeopleFinders opt-out page:
Alternatively, scroll to the bottom of the PeopleFinders homepage and click "Do Not Sell My Personal Information", then click "Next" under the "Right to Opt-out" section.
Step 3: Submit Initial Request
- Click "Next" under "Public Record Removal"
- Scroll down and enter your name and email address
- Complete the CAPTCHA
- Click "Send Request"
Use a Throwaway Email
Create a separate email address for data broker opt-outs. Data brokers are known to add opt-out requesters to marketing lists. Don't use your primary email. Consider ProtonMail or a disposable email service.
Step 4: Check Your Email
- Go to your email inbox
- Look for an email from PeopleFinders
- Check spam/junk folder if not in inbox
- Click the link that says "Click here to fill out the record removal form"
Step 5: Complete the Removal Form
- Fill out the opt-out form with required information (fields marked with asterisks are mandatory)
- Agree to the terms and conditions
- Complete the CAPTCHA
- Submit the form
Step 6: Wait for Processing
PeopleFinders states processing takes approximately 3 days, but users report it can take up to 9 days or longer.
After the waiting period, search for yourself on PeopleFinders again to verify removal.

California Residents: CCPA Rights
California residents can submit a formal CCPA deletion request:
"Pursuant to the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), Cal. Civ. Code § 1798.105, I am exercising my right to deletion. Please delete all personal information you have collected about me and confirm deletion within 45 days as required by law."
Removing from Google Search Results
Even after PeopleFinders removes your profile, it may still appear in Google search results due to caching. To speed up removal:
- First, verify your profile is actually removed from PeopleFinders
- Go to Google's Remove Outdated Content tool
- Submit the URL of your old PeopleFinders profile
- Google will remove it from search results within days to weeks
Your Data May Return
PeopleFinders may republish your information when they receive new data from public records. The opt-out suppresses display - it doesn't stop them from collecting new data about you.
Set a calendar reminder: Re-check PeopleFinders every 90 days. If your profile reappears, you'll need to go through the opt-out process again.
This is an ongoing process, not a permanent solution.
